The "baby boomers" entering their senior years, combined with longer life spans, have created a demographic phenomenon sometimes referred to as the "silver tsunami." This section provides an overview of issues that are likely to concern the courts with this shift in demographics.

Elder Abuse

Elder abuse, which includes neglect and financial exploitation, is a growing problem. This section provides background information as well as resources and tools designed to help courts improve their identification of and response to elder abuse.


This section includes a discussion of both guardianships of the person and guardianships of the estate. Promising practices and resources are provided to assist courts in fulfilling their responsibility to monitor and protect the vulnerable citizens subject to guardianship.
