Training offered by other organizations

A number of organizations offer training for judicial officers on issues related to elder abuse:

State-specific training resources

A number of states have developed state-specific training resources.  They include:

  • The California courts' Center for Families, Children and the Courts', a 2.5 day curriculum on Handling Elder Abuse Issues which covers topics including:  judicial ethics; types of elder abuse; evidentiary issues; medical, probate, conservatorship, and criminal law issues; assessing capacity; undue influence; and victim, perpetrator and family characteristics.
Download the compressed curriculum zip file here which contains: PPTs, lesson plans, and materials
  • The Maryland courts have a website and an 8-part video series describing alternatives for guardianship.
